patupaiarehe

in room 10 we made drawings of what our patupaiarehe.
In Māori tradition patupaiarehe, also known as tūrehu and pakepakehā, were fairy-like creatures of the forests and mountaintops. Although they had some human attributes, patupaiarehe were regarded not as people but as supernatural beings
They were seldom seen, and an air of mystery and secrecy still surrounds them. In most traditions, those who encountered patupaiarehe were able to understand their language. But in one account they were unintelligible.

Physical features

Patupaiarehe had light skin and red or fair hair. Historian James Cowan was told that ‘they were a lighter complexion than Maori; their hair was of a dull golden or reddish hue, urukehu, such as is sometimes seen in Maori of today.’

Unlike Māori, they were never tattooed. Mohi Tūrei of Ngāti Porou described their skin as white, albino or the color of red ochre. Their eye color varied from light blue to black.

Homework week 6!

for our week 6 homework, the task was... What does it take to be a top magician? Compile a list of the qualities, strengths, and attributes needed to be a successful magician. Then create a poster advertising an upcoming TV show starring this magician.
So to do this I did it on canva, lately, I've done a lot of homework project on canva and I really enjoy doing it on canva. Anyway here it is, click on the link to see it!

Science Badge

Now this year I have completed my 2nd science badge!
The first one I did, was psychology. It was my first choice because as soon as I saw that name I immediately thought about how when I was little I wanted to be a psychologist, and also because it would be fun.
In order to get your science badge, you need to complete a series of projects to get you points, once you have got 20 points you get you science badge you also have to put it into a folder to present. this is my folder:

Here is one of my projects I did for psychology:

The second science badge I did was entomology, the science of bugs.
Here is one of my projects from that:

My reflection on my science badge: I think I did really well on my science badge. The thing I think I'm most proud of is the time frame I did everything in. I started my first one in the 4th term and thought I would only just finish in time, not only did I finish it quickly and to a high standard, I had time to do another one too! and doing these science badges showed me that I really like writing poems! I thought that I didn't like writing poems but in both of my science badges my task was to write poems and after that was history.
I would definitely recommend doing a science badge to everyone.

Adding Detail

Pandas in Manderin

this is my panda painting I made out of black dye. first, we did eyes than the ears then, finally the arms, legs, and body.

Short story

Yesterday my friend John was murdered. His body was found in the forest. They still don’t know who did it but I hope they find out soon. The same sort of thing happened to a girl at my school she was found in her backyard with slashes across her face.

It was a raining day my little brother Tyler was busy in the kitchen making a paper boat, he was going to race it down the drain alongside the road. “Bye mum, and Bye bye Ben,” he said to me. Then he headed out. More than 3 hours passed and we still haven’t heard from Tyler, mum called the police and I called the neighbors to see if they had seen him lately or heard anything. No one seemed to know anything. The police were now looking outside our house. But less in 1 hour later there was a knock on the door. “Madam we have found your son, but I have some sad news,” the police officer said. Mum burst into tears. And a tear slowly trickled down my cheek. “Whoever killed him wrote a giant 3 on him,” he said the shook on mom's face was like she was hit by thunder. “Whoever killed him was the same person who killed the two other children.” he carried on. I didn’t get much sleep last night or the next night after that.

But on Thursday when I was walking home from school, I heard something in the bush I turned my head and staring back at me was a pair of glowing red eyes. I tried to move but my legs were glued to the ground. The thing was slowly rising from the bush and what stood before me was a clown. WHAT? Finally, my legs started to work but not work, they went fast like a rocket. I ran half the way down the street and I forced myself to look behind me. The clown was running too but the expression on its face was fear like he was running not only for me but for himself. I turned a corner and there was a bunch of people around I saw my teacher, miss swan. I basically throw myself on her. But I couldn’t speak. I was in shock. All I managed to say is: “Help me” in a raspy voice. I was crying not only that but flooded with tears. My legs are weak and my head was dizzy. “What do you mean,” said miss swan “It, it, it” was all I could say. “What do you mean? There's nothing there” “But the clown” I stuttered and then I heard some giggling behind me. There was a crowd of people. Wish I knew that sooner. “I think you're hallucinating,” Miss Swan said in a reproachful voice “Maybe you should go home - I’ll call your mom” I didn’t know what to say I know it was fake but it wasn’t. I knew what I saw and what I saw. Was I going crazy? I went through these thoughts on the car ride home, when mom was saying something like, I was imagining my brother's death, and making a wrong reality. I just resorted to staring out the window and then. I saw it… the Clown.  “MOM THERE IT IS!!” I cried the clown was in the bush. But when I looked back It was gone.“Nothing” I replied. Then mom continued to talk about how I'm imaging things. But I knew I was right.

That night I didn’t get much sleep. I just lay there staring at the ceiling. Feeling trapped in a sort of way. Am I going crazy, am I … A crash from downstairs interrupted in my head discussion. It sounded like mum was looking in the fridge for a midnight snack. I decided to have a snack too. I get out of bed and head downstairs. The lights were on. Mum.
But then. It happened so fast. A pale white hand quickly wrapped around my neck and lifted me off the ground and against the wall. I kicked and tried to scream but it just turned out to be little Wailes.  Before my eyes rolled into my brain I saw the clown. The clown that chased me down the street and the clown the drove me out of my mind. Then I heard something:
“Afraid, afraid, afraid,” the voice said. It was cracked and quite. “Your afraid” I managed to say, it’s not easy to talk when you're on the road to death. The clown immediately dropped me. I fell to the ground. “HOW DID YOU KNOW THAT” It screamed in my face. It pinned me to the ground. “I’m not scared I’m conservative.” He seemed no longer talking to me. Then he took out an inhaler from his pocket and inhaled it. “Hah that's better,” it said in a cheerful voice. Then he took out a mirror and started to pimp himself up. Doing hair, cheeking nails, and sucking in his cheeks. “You’re psychotic” I screamed the thing didn’t even look at me. Just took out a knife and stabbed me with it.

What Was it?

Biography of JonBenet Ramsey

Chapter 1
The early life

JonBenet Patricia Ramsey was a beauty pageant queen and won many titles. At the time of her death, Jonbenét was enrolled in kindergarten at High Peaks Elementary School in Boulder, Colorado. She was named after her parents John Benet Ramsey and Patricia (Patsy) Ramsey. JonBenet was named after her father John Bonet Ramsey. JonBenét Patricia Ramsey was born on August 6, 1990, in Atlanta, Georgia. She lived in Boulder, Colorado. Jonbenét the youngest of two children of Patsy and John Ramsey. Her older brother, Burke, was three years older. The daughter of a socialite and a wealthy businessman,
John Ramsey JonBenet's father was the president of Access graphics a business computer system.
Patsy Ramsey, JonBenet's mother enrolled JonBenet in multiple beauty pageants. JonBenet was a true southern girl who enjoyed the spotlight. By age 6, she had already garnered five pageantry titles: Americas Royale Miss, Little Miss Charlevoix, Little Miss Colorado, Colorado state all-stars CoverGirl and National tiny miss beauty.

Chapter 2
The Murder

On the morning of December 26, 1996, Patsy Ramsey called the police after finding a 3-page ransom note demanding $118,000 for her daughter's safe return. The girl's body, however, was discovered in the basement later that afternoon. JonBenét’s skull had been fractured, she had been sexually assaulted, and she was strangled with a garrote made from one of Patsy’s paintbrushes. According to the coroner’s report, JonBenét’s official cause of death was asphyxia by strangulation associated with craniocerebral trauma and her death was classified as a homicide.
People at the house at the moment John Ramsey Patsy Ramsey and Burke Ramsey. Though JonBenet Ramsey was found in less than 8 hours later by Her father John Ramsey. What's even stranger though that her body was found inside Ramsey's home. In the basement, she was found with duct tape over her mouth and a cord around her neck. Why did they search the house because there was no reason to believe in the Ransom note that JonBenet Ramsey was in the house. The autopsy found that JonBenet tied up as pixelation caused by strangling a paintbrush from Patsy's craft box was used to tighten the rope which killed JonBenet. There was DNA Found in German pajamas and underwear both belonging to a single unidentified man. The DNA was tested with 1.5 million DNA samples which did not match any of them.  There were two sets of an identified footprints at the scene of the crime. However, since 2006, the rope has never been tested. But if someone broke into the house they did very cleverly because there were no footsteps outside in the snow and no sign of forced entry.
The Ransom note started with:
‘Mr. Ramsay listen carefully we are a group of individuals that represent a small foreign faction. With respect to your business but not the country that it serves.’  Here's another thing two men are watching over your daughter do not particularly like you so I advise you not to provoke them. Speaking to anyone about your situation such as police and FBI will resort with your daughter's beheading, Can try to deceive us but be warned that we are familiar with the law, enforcement, countermeasures, and tactics. You stand a 99% chance of us killing your daughter If you try to outsmart us. Follow our instructions in your stand at 100% chance of getting her back .’
The letter was signed S.B.T.C  initials that still stand a mystery. Another curious fact is that the sum of $118,000 is close to the amount that John Ramsay got a bonus that year. More facts about the Ransom note is that the Ransom note was written with pen and paper inside the house. Although this is suspicious this also bought a lot of integrity in the facts that the note might be a hoax. That means whoever murdered JonBenet broke into the house wrote the note inside for some reason then killed JonBenet. And all this was happening when all the Ramseys were in the house! The analysis of the notepad used to suggest that the murderer did a practice note, also part of the practice note was found. The case of this horror still is unsolved after 20 years of working. Among law enforcement, the media and the public, theories abounded as to who the killer or killers were, with suspects ranging from JonBenet’s parents to a former substitute teacher living in Thailand. Investigators formed an expert prosecution task force, followed thousands of tips and spent millions of dollars trying to charge and prosecute a suspect. The crime spurred books, TV shows and movies, including several this last fall. This case is still a mystery because of the DNA results showing that what people thought in the beginning to be the killer was the maker of the clothing.

Chapter 3
Suspects

Suspects John Patsy and Burke Ramsey the next suspect Bill Mcreynolds, He visited the Ramsey home only two days before the murder And sometimes dressed up as Santa, His own daughter was Kidnapped in 1974. According to Denver post, this man felt close to JonBenet Ramsey, Here's a quote ‘her murder was harder than me then my operation She made a profound change in me’ McReynolds even Brought As I Lay glitter given to him by JonBenet Into heart surgery.  He even asked his wife to mix the Glitter with his ashes if he were to die.
Garry Oliva  A man who lived only A few blocks away and the Ramsay home. In 2016 Gary was arrested and charges of childpornogrohy. And in 2000 Gary was arrested and unrelated Drug charges. And he was found carrying a picture of jonbenet and his backpack. He explained why he had a picture in the Denver Post: ‘JonBenet's murder Catch me very deeply, I doubt that she was an exceptional girl It was an exceptional lose’
The Last suspect Is John Mark karr. He wasn't a suspect until 2006 when he confessed to the murdered via email To journalist and professor  Michael Tracey. The emails back and forth for more than 4 years in order to gain his trust. Michael said this of the experience,
‘You are hearing and reading a really dark side of the human psyche, and having to pretend it's okay, That I wasn't going to sit in judgement, Otherwise the communication would of stopped, this is the  worst experience of my life so far.
In the email John Mark karr wrote that he was in love with jonbenet. And later confessed to hitting jonbenet over the head with a flashlight.
Here's a bit from the email.
‘She was of course asleep from the time that she was, I took her from the bed and took her into the basement, Her first reaction was “where am I” and I said “your in your basement” she wasn’t in that little room to be decreased. And I would never disgrace she or dishonor her. She was there tempermeter and what really hurts me is that she stayed there. And there's where her father found her and that's just a terrible thing’
And if john mark karr did do it he did not act alone. Because There was two unidentified footprints at the scene of the crime.
Mark Beckner the lead investigator in the case said that the confession did not match any of the found evidence. They knew in about 18 hours that this was not the guy.  In fact John wasn’t even in  colorado in the time of the murder. He was in georgia at the time.
But then Dr henry lee a DNA expert found that the DNA found in jonbenet's pajamas and underwear might not even belong to the killer. Dr Lee thought that the DNA belonged to a factory worker who made the underwear and pajamas. He tested this with a unopened bag of underwear, and found some DNA belonging to a factory worker.

Chapter 4
Jonbenet Remembered

By now you must be asking yourself what's next, who killed jonbenet Ramsey? Well no-one knows, well not yet. This has to be the most confusing mystery of all time with every step you take you take another 5 steps back. There is so much evidence that points everywhere, like the DNA and the confession of John Mark Karr, why would he confess to something he didn’t do, and why email back and forth for 4 years? Any of these suspects could have killed Jonbenet, even her own parents. Why would you go through the trouble of writing a ransom to trade Jonbenet then killing her doesn't make any sense. But that's why this case isn't solved, it dosen’t make any sense. We don’t know who killed Jonbenet but the one thing we know is that Jonbenet Patricia Ramsey the beauty queen, who, by the age of 6 won 5 big beauty pageant titles and the daughter of a wealthy businessman and a stay at home mom and sister to a suspect of a giant mystery and one of the world most confusing, unsolved mystery she will be missed.  This year Jonbenet would be 27 her birthday being on the 6th of August. By now she could have had a family of her own, a life of her. One of the only reasons this is so hard to believe is because nobody understands how somebody could do such an inhuman thing. We won't forget Jonbenet, nor the mourning of her family, but we will remember her, her sweet smile in her pretty pageant shoots and her beautiful blue eyes. Thanks Jonbenet for the time you had here.

The Big Think - Financial Literacy

In room 10 we have been working on financial literacy. In the slide below there is all the thing I would buy if I had $1,000,000. Then we had to put it into a google spreadsheet and work out how many money we have left. in the google spreadsheet below, you see under the balance I have $95,977.45 left after everything I bought. But that's just a little look at what I bought, in the slide, it will go into more detail.

Homework

For my homework This week we had to Create an A4 collage of either a Greek, Roman, Aztec, Mayan (or other ancient civilizations) important building or scene. I chose Roman because it's the one I'm most familiar with and because roman empire had a lot of history. I decided that I would do my homework on canva.
In the canva I put photos of Roman cities and buildings, then I did people, food, and Beauty. I chose those because it will really let you have a look at different roman culture and people.

The Lime Battery

we wanted to see how a battery works. we put a zinc nail and a piece of copper into a lime and connected to a voltmeter.
one lime =0.95 volts two limes =1.96 volts three limes = 2.9 volt and lit up a l.e.d.Image result for how does it work
Does it depend on the size of the lime? - No
What if I put in more nails and copper? yes, you can.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GhbuhT1GDpI
Can I use different metals - Yes

We (10A) also used a banana battery - it creates 1 volt more than the lime battery.

Furnware

On the 24th May three classes, (rooms 10, 11 and 12) went to the Hawke's Bay company called Furnware. It was amazing to see the deeper meaning of the chairs and tables that we never give a second thought about. We heard about this in the history of Furnware! That was a lot more fun then you’ll realize, (with some funny comments from the boys). I wanted it to last forever, but time flies and I was excited that the next one was starting.

The next part of the tour was the design stage! We had to design a table and the winner gets it made! Quickly we got into groups of fives. Lily, Keira, Rainnah, Paige, and I. Together we designed a rain drop whiteboard table. I was sad when we ran out of time and it was time to go to the next part of the tour!

Finally, we were up to the factory tour; the tour was so big they had to split us up into three parts. My group started with the middle part then the start, finally the end. We were also given a piece of paper with some questions on it that we had to answer.

When the factory tour was over I finally hit me that the Furnware tour was over. But there is one more thing left to do, thank the tour guides. Jakub from room 12 got to do that. After that, we really had to go.

Remembering to say thanks on the way out, we hopped on the bus and we were gone.
